PHP is a high level of support intended for those transitioning from residential care or detoxification or for those who are needing an enhanced level of support. What Does a Partial Hospitalization Program Treat?
At Chicago Rehab Center, we can address and treat a variety of conditions through our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), including substance use, eating disorders, mood disorders (such as depression, anxiety disorders, and bipolar disorders), and other mental health conditions that may be complicated by substance use. Oftentimes, there is a dual diagnosis that is treated on-site, as the patient as a whole is being treated.
When participating in our Partial Hospitalization Program, patients attend treatment during the day and return home each evening. This intensive outpatient program enables them to practice newly learned skills under the care of registered nurses, specialists, social workers, therapists, and doctors while staying connected with their loved ones during treatment.
PHP Chicago Health: Which Treatment is Best for Me?
At CRC, patients are provided a comprehensive assessment by both the medical and clinical team. During the assessment process, we will collaboratively discuss treatment options and collectively decide on the best initial level of care and treatment recommendations for you. The goal of treatment recommendations at CRC Institute is to optimize mental health and overall health while also addressing one’s coping skills, daily functioning, and family communication. With all of that in mind, the end goal is to solidify a foundation of long-term recovery.
Each patient is unique and is continually developing and evolving as is each person’s ability to function well and progress throughout life’s challenges. That is why a lot of factors are analyzed when offering guidance as to the best treatment plan. A comprehensive and individualized plan is carefully considered after addressing patient symptoms, life history, potential mental illness, co occurring disorders, family involvement, etc. There are a lot of factors that go into our accredited team’s treatment plan.
Clients often participate in Partial Hospitalization Programs when they feel overwhelmed by their relationship to alcohol and other substances, or when they feel they are losing control of their life. Many clients also participate in our outpatient programs when they need to improve their mental health conditions that are exacerbated by substance use.

What Can I Expect from a Chicago Partial Hospitalization Program?
The Partial Hospitalization Program at CRC Institute is customized to the needs of each individual. As opposed to an inpatient program at a facility or a hospital in which children, adolescents, or adults may attend if needing full-time treatment and care, a PHP is a non-residential program, meaning you return at night to your home. Even though you are not in a residential hospitalization program, you still can receive medication management, relapse prevention, traditional and alternative treatments, and continual feedback and support from your PHP team.
The recommended therapies and treatments will vary from person to person based on an assessment of what is best for the patient. The aim is to reach long-lasting recovery of physical and behavioral health. At CRC, we do not treat the child or adolescent; however, when a young adult or adult is engaged in treatment, family involvement is critical. With family therapy, group psychotherapy, and individual therapy, a lot of important work can get done that can have life-long impact.
An advantage of engaging in PHP treatment is being able to receive intense treatment services while still being able to remain at home and engaging in some regular activities while receiving support from your loved ones in a comfortable environment.
How Long is a Chicago PHP Program for Adults?
PHP therapy and treatment occur for six hours per day typically for five days per week. The exact length of treatment will be determined by assessing an individual’s specific behavioral and physical health needs.
