What Does a Meditation Class Look Like?

The goal at CRC Institute is to fill your day with healing. We help you to remove yourself from toxic environments that may cause negative behaviors such as substance use and unhealthy relationships, and work to provide you with new routines and healthy practices.

Our meditation classes will be led by certified instructors who will help guide you through the practice and help explain the benefits of a regular meditation routine. All sessions are group classes in our beautiful, relaxing, and welcoming studio.

What Should I Expect as an Individual New to the Practice?

An instructor may guide you to create an intention for your practice (such as letting go of a painful relationship or keeping a positive thought as a central focus throughout the class.) Or, an instructor might offer you some imagery to envision as you are focusing on your breath. This is called visualization, and it can help you to direct your mind to a place associated with good feelings. This place of good feeling can be used in day-to-day life when tensions arise, such as in an argument or stuck in traffic.

If there is not a class scheduled and you want to take a few minutes to simply breathe, our meditation studio is available for you. CRC is an integrated center for healing, and we want every part of it to be a place where healing practices are ready and available, whenever you may need them.

Meditation Class Arlington Heights: Frequently Asked Questions

Meditation is a study in awareness. The goal is not to turn off your thoughts but rather to be aware of where your thoughts lead. As with any new skill, practicing meditation regularly can help you feel the benefits and teach your brain to be content without consistent distraction.

A meditation class at Chicago Rehab Center is an option for any individuals looking to increase their overall wellbeing. Many individuals start with 5 or 10-minute meditations as their mind and body adjust to the practice. Eventually, we encourage practitioners to work up to 30 minutes of intentional mediation. However, any amount of time that you can slow down the thoughts in your mind is beneficial! You may pop into a meditation class that has already begun and simply join us for two minutes, or you may do a 20-minute meditation class and then even continue to sit on your cushion once the guide has finished. There is no set length of time required and there is no “wrong” way to meditate. Simply showing up has benefits in and of itself.

At CRC, our certified meditation guides will encourage you to get comfortable by either sitting on a cushion, kneeling on a cushion, or even laying down on a blanket on the floor. The key is to find a position that is comfortable and that allows you to not move around or fall asleep. We recommend you bring a jacket or sweater to meditation classes, as the stillness can often make people feel cold, which can be distracting.
