Meditation Class Chicago

Focus on your overall health with Chicago meditation classes and improve your quality of life.

What is Meditation?

Meditation is a practice or a technique where you strive toward mindfulness through the simple act of breathing. The practice of meditation has the ability to alter your consciousness and your overall awareness, thus positively impacting your physical and mental well-being. While some people are intimidated about the concept of meditation, the truth is this: Anyone can do it. With practice, the benefits can be astounding.

How Can Meditation Class Chicago Help My Healing?

Meditation and mindfulness have been proven to be effective with addiction and recovery. As you clear your mind, you also heal your body. With a clear mind, you are able to improve your self-awareness, and that is a key element to recovery. At Chicago Rehab Center, we understand that meditation can be very valuable with your recovery as it provides you with a tool that you will have for the rest of your life — the ability to be mindful and to understand and manage your triggers.

While there may be a lot of challenges or even chaos in your life, meditating provides you with the opportunity to shut that off — even if just for a few minutes. While sitting on the cushion in CRC’s Chicago meditation class, you can let go of your daily stress and struggles and just simply be.

What is the Goal of Meditation?

The goal of meditation is really quite simple: it’s just to be. Be present. Be where you are at. Be calm. Technically, you should not really focus on a goal but rather on just breathing. Whatever happens during your Chicago meditation class is beneficial because you showed up and sat on the cushion. It is not more complicated than that. People often claim an inability to meditate. They feel discouraged and claim that they are “unable to meditate.” Yet there is no right or wrong way to meditation. You just show up and breathe.

As you quiet your thoughts, you maybe even let go of some of them, as well. This is where growing calm and peaceful can be found. Besides a feeling of tranquility, there are so many additional benefits that you can embrace with a Chicago meditation practice, including:

  • Calming your mind
  • Reducing stress
  • Helping with anxiety
  • Reducing symptoms of depression
  • Improving immune system health
  • Enhancing self-awareness
  • Managing impulses

What Will Meditation Classes at CRC Look Like?

The goal at CRC is to fill your day with healing. As we help you to remove yourself from toxic environments, we provide new routines such as the practice of sitting on a mat in our Chicago meditation center. Our Chicago meditation classes will be led by certified instructors who will help guide you through the process. The classes will be group classes, which are held onsite in our Chicago location, in a beautiful, relaxing, welcoming setting. While you are a part of this Chicago meditation group, you may drop in at any time that a class is being offered.

An instructor may help guide you to create an intention for your practice (such as letting go of a painful relationship) or an instructor might offer you some imagery to envision as you are focusing on your breath. This is called a visualization, and it can help you to direct your mind to a place associated with good feelings. An example of this would be an instructor’s suggestion to imagine that you are on a beach, watching the calm water roll in and out.

If there is not a class scheduled and you want to take a few minutes to simply breathe, our welcoming Chicago meditation studio is available for you. CRC Institute is an integrated center for healing, and we want every part of it to be a place where that magic can happen — where something special occurs and you feel that shift within you.

Meditation Center Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions

Meditation is simply a study in awareness. Some people think that they have to turn off all of their thoughts in order to meditate. The goal is not to turn off your thoughts but rather to be aware of your thoughts and of your breath. Hopefully, as you focus more on your breath while also letting your stream of thoughts go, you will feel a sense of calm and clarity.

A meditation class in Chicago at CRC is an option that is available as we aim to fill your days with healing. Whether we need to look at traditional treatments, modern treatments, or a combination of both, we develop a customized plan with you and for you. As you are looking to optimize your  health, you may want to incorporate meditation into your life. Our certified meditation guides at CRC are here to either introduce you to the practice or to enhance your current practice. So, grab a cushion and join us.

Usually, it is recommended that you start with five or 10 minutes of meditation and work up to about 30 minutes. However, any amount of time that you can slow down the thoughts in your mind is beneficial. You may pop into a meditation class Chicago that has already begun and simply join us for two minutes, or you may do a 20-minute meditation class and then even continue to sit on your cushion once the guide has finished. At CRC, your meditation, and any treatment you receive, is about what works for you. There is no set length of time required. You may feel the benefits after just a couple minutes.

At CRC, our certified meditation guides will encourage you to get comfortable by either sitting on a cushion, kneeling on a cushion, or even laying down on a blanket on the floor. Some people cannot sit cross-legged comfortably while others cannot lay down without falling asleep. The key is to find a position that is comfortable and that allows you to not move around or fall asleep.

A meditation class at CRC in Chicago may help you to deal with stress, anxiety, or pain. If you are unsure whether or not a meditation class Chicago would be beneficial for you, simply ask one of our experts. We are always available to help you to choose the path of healing that is the most comfortable and effective for you.
