Acupuncture Evanston

By incorporating Eastern practices at our integrated center for healing, you’ll learn how everything on your road to recovery is connected.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional component of Chinese medicine and one of the oldest wellness treatments. Mostly prevalent in Eastern medicine, acupuncture is seen as a holistic treatment that targets thousands of points in the human body to reset your energy or qi (pronounced “chee”). However, here in the West, practitioners view acupuncture as a way to stimulate your nervous system rather than resetting your energy.

However, both Eastern and Western ideologies agree that acupuncture techniques offer many positive effects on your physical well-being, improving your natural healing capabilities and state of mind. Despite popular belief, acupuncture is not designed to hurt. By inserting tiny needles into your skin, you can reset your body and help everything flow properly again.

How Can Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine Help My Healing?

Studies suggest that acupuncture can treat addiction and assist in the detox process when used alongside other therapies (and when used by itself). By improving your body’s ability to self-heal, acupuncture at CRC seeks to re-balance your physical and mental state and aid your journey to recovery. Thanks to the treatments with modern acupuncturists at CRC, you can reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms and help your body regain order in its natural flow.

In turn, you may learn to let go of previous trauma, focus on your overall health, and may feel a sense of calmness and peace.

What are the Risks of Acupuncture?

The risks of acupuncture are quite minimal as long as you are in good hands with a certified acupuncture practitioner. At Chicago Rehab Center, you can rest assured knowing that we only have the best practitioners on our team. With single-use, disposable needles, your risk of infection is minimal.

If you have one of the following, you may, however, be at risk for complications with acupuncture:

  • Have a pacemaker — acupuncture treatments involving mild electrical pulses can interfere with your pacemaker’s operation.
  • Have chronic skin problems — you may be at a greater risk for infection
  • Have a bleeding disorder — If you take blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, or have certain other medical issues, your risk for bruising and bleeding may increase.
  • Are pregnant — some forms of acupuncture are thought to stimulate labor.

If you have any of the above, check with your doctor to ensure that acupuncture treatment in Evanston is safe and right for you. Also, if you have any kind of implants, make sure to discuss this with your doctor and acupuncturist, as well.

Acupuncture Evanston: Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture is often a process wherein a few treatments are necessary to get the desired effects (such as diminished pain, fewer cravings, improved mood). While you might feel relaxed or even in less pain after your first treatment, many people engage in a multi-session acupuncture program.

Many people do not like the thought of needles and thus may feel hesitant about acupuncture. The needles used in acupuncture are very different from needles used to draw blood, for example. They are tiny, hair string-like needles that are disposable and that are not known to cause pain. Some describe a tingly feeling or a warm feeling, but it is not supposed to be painful. If you are uncomfortable or experiencing pain, do not hesitate to let your acupuncturist know.

When combined with other treatments and modalities, many studies suggest that acupuncture can help treat addiction and aid in the detoxification process. For some people, acupuncture Evanston has been able to help alleviate cravings and provide an overall sense of calm.

We do not recommend drinking coffee before your acupuncture treatment. Because caffeine is a stimulant, it increases your fight-or-flight response, which is counterproductive to the acupuncture treatment. As such, you not consume caffeine for at least two hours before your session.
